"When we started this 14 weeks ago I really could not imagine we would make it into the national championship match. So we are ecstatic. We really feel like we won something by making it to this final game."
Raider Red was in the final round of the Capital One Mascot Challenge and Texas Tech fans weren't going to stop voting before their time was up.
"Every time I sit down at the computer I vote a hundred times. It takes about 3 or 4 minutes and you're done."
Raider Red was up against Cocky, the University of South Carolina gamecock and he was a tough bird to beat.
"On his Facebook page he has 118,000 friends. We have 4,000 so when we made it to this round we though we are up against a fight but we are so proud and so ready to finish it up. We know that we can do this."
Texas Tech is still fighting for votes announcing the contest on Facebook and even at basketball games. There is a 20,000 dollar prize but former professor Richard Peterson says there is something more important to Raider Red fans than money.
"Well in addition to the pride there's just the general national recognition. There's a lot of great things going on here and people don't know about it so it gets us out there."
