The Lubbock Renegades are no more -- the team announced today that they will fold due to lack of funds and community sponsorship.

2009 was supposed to be “the” year for the arena football team, but because they just couldn't get the solid fan base in 2008, they have to say goodbye to Lubbock.

Team officials say season ticket sales for next season were already up by 30%, but it just wasn't enough.  The team needed serious community support and even with solid corporate sponsors they just couldn't hold it together.

As for if Lubbock will see another professional team in the future, it's questionable but is still possible.

Kurt Kaiser, Director, Sponsorship Sales: "We really didn't get the community behind the Renegades, or any other professional franchise that we would've liked to have seen.  And I think that's disappointing, because Lubbock needs professional football, they need professional sports of some kind.  And I really think it's going to be a number of years before we see someone else try it again because a number have not got the support they needed and that's disappointing because I think we could support a team if we really got behind it."

Kaiser says that this decision really was a last resort.
