Authorities Arrest Suspect in Fatal Hit & Run Crash

Lubbock police say they've identified the driver responsible for a deadly hit and run crash from last month and around 9:00 Tuesday night, the suspect turned himself in to authorities at the Lubbock County Jail.   Investigators say the 21-year-old man hit a Lubbock pedestrian near 13th and Quaker, then took off.  The victim died five days later and police say the driver has to pay for his actions.

Less than a week after Lubbock police turned to the public for help, good, old-fashioned police work is what ended up leading them to a suspect in the death of 31-year--old John Elam.   A vehicle hit him on August 30th as he was walking near 13th and Quaker and he died five days later.  His roommate, Amanda Howard says,"He was always happy you know he always loved his friends."
Investigators say just a little physical evidence left at the scene of the crash was enough to help them solve the case and charge 21-year-old Cameron Livesay with Failure to Stop and Render Aid.  Court papers say they found a broken headlight at the crash scene and figured out it belonged to a Dodge Ram pick-up.  Police started calling auto parts dealers in the area and found out a local repair shop had ordered that exact headlight.  When officers got to the shop, they found this black Dodge truck that belongs to Livesay and a search warrant allowed them to seize the truck to collect evidence.  DPS analysis experts were able to confirm the headlight at the scene did come from Livesay's truck and without a doubt his truck hit Elam.  Authorities issued a warrant for Livesay's arrest early Tuesday afternoon.  Those who knew Elam say they can't understand how Livesay could have treated their friend so cruelly.  They say, "How can you just drag somebody and drive off and not notice you were dragging somebody? He's not a dog or a cat he's a human being, I mean, he didn't deserve this."
