Lubbock is still on standby as we wait for as many as 1,000 Hurricane Ike evacuees to flood into The Hub City. State officials alerted the city last night and told us to prepare for coastal residents to arrive this afternoon. Hundreds of staff members and volunteers have been working around the clock to make sure were prepared to handle the influx of evacuees, but all flights scheduled for coastal residents to Lubbock have now been cancelled. City officials say with Hurricane Ike still headed for Texas, they have to be prepared to house evacuees at a moments notice. Says Relief Team Leader Garett Nelson, "You have to remember that the hurricane is very unpredictable, the people and what they want to do are unpredictable, and when you throw all those unpredictabilities together, and you just dont know until they get here, but were going to be ready."
