Lubbock Bar Expects Big Crowd for Tech Bowl Game

With Texas Tech's bowl game in Houston this year, Lubbock bars are preparing for big crowd's for Tech fans who didn't head down for the game.

Jake's Sports Bar manager Vernon Paul said they are not only getting ready for the Tech game, but also all bowl games this year.

"Any Big Twelve team we usually get big crowds for," said Paul. "Depends on who is playing. We're expecting a huge crowd on January First, and we've got a special that day, because the game starts at 11, so we're going to open at 11."

Vernon also said the bar was packed the night the Red Raider's announced that Kliff Kingsbury was the new head coach.

"The day they introduced him, you know brought him into town, we had almost a packed house," said Paul. "I mean they were going crazy in here."

Paul also thinks Kingsbury's hire should help with bar business next season. "I really think he's going to bring, not only us, but probably every place in town," said Paul. "The majority of them are probably going to be at the stadium, but we still have good crowds."

For Friday's game, Paul said they are making sure they are stocked and staffed for fans. "We do extra stuff in the kitchen, we bring in extra staff so that everyone gets good service, and we usually have a couple extra cooks so the stuff doesn't stay out too long, cause we usually have a really good crowd for the Tech game."
