Texas Tech University's mascot, Raider Red, was crowned champion in the 2012 Capitol One Mascot Challenge on Tuesday.
The national contest featured 15 mascots from college teams across the country.
Red beat out Cocky the Gamecock from the University of South Carolina in the final round. Raider Red finished in second place behind Cocky during the first round of voting-- sending the two into a final runoff.
The win nets Texas Tech's mascot program a $20,000 scholarship.
"Thanks to the thousands of students, alumni, fans, and Texas Tech faculty and staff who voted tirelessly over the past 15 weeks and also to the media for helping us get the word out, Texas Tech has a National Champion in Raider Red, the best mascot in the country," said Stephanie Rhode, director of Texas Tech's Spirit Squads.
