1. House Voted to Approve 'Fiscal Cliff' Deal

The House of Representatives voted late Tuesday night to approve the fiscal cliff deal, passing 257-167 despite a majority of the House voting against it.

2. 2012 Warmest Year on Record

The year 2012 was the warmest year on record in the U.S., according to preliminary data from the national weather service. By taking the top spot, 2012 pushes 1998, formerly the hottest year recorded to number two.

3. Sandy Hook Families to View New School

Families from Sandy Hook Elementary School will get a look at their new school in Monroe, Ct. today, though classes will not begin until Thursday. Students and parents will have the opportunity to see their new classrooms and meet their teachers today.

4. Off Shore Oil Rig Runs Aground

Stormy weather caused an off-shore oil rig owned by Shell oil to run aground off the coast of Alaska on Monday. All crew members were evacuated before the rig grounded on an island about 250 miles south of Anchorage. There are no reports of leaking oil.

5. Prince William Joins New Years Rescue Search

Prince William rang in the New Year braving force eight gale winds to join a search for a man swept off a pier in England. The 41-year-old dog-walker had been sent into the water by a wave.
