The heavy rains have taken over much of West Texas, causing a lot of flooding throughout Lubbock.  But what about the city's drainage project?

All of this flooding just makes many folks wonder where the city is in terms of the new flood control project.  The new system aims to take water from city streets, and feed it back into the Playa Lakes.

City officials say it was supposed to start next week, but might be postponed because of all this rain.

Storm water officials say the new system won't get rid of all the flooding in streets... but should make it so that water clears out within 30 minutes of the storm.

No matter how long it takes, city officials say it's just the way our streets have to be when we live in such a flat place like Lubbock because there's nowhere for the water to go.
