LUBBOCK, TEXAS -
Senior quarterback Seth Doege and senior safety Cody Davis will play
one final game as amateurs as both have agreed to play in the 2013
East-West Shrine Game on January 19.
This
year's East-West Shrine Game will be played at Tropicana Field in St.
Petersburg, Fla., and will be televised by the NFL Network.
Doege,
a senior from Wolfforth, was just recently named the MVP of the 2012
Meineke Car Care Bowl as he led the Red Raiders to a come-from-behind
34-31 win over
Minnesota. His 271 yards passing and two touchdowns capped a thrilling
comeback in the fourth quarter that led to a game winning field goal by
Ryan Bustin as time expired.
On
the season, Doege threw for 4,205 yards and became the first Texas Tech
quarterback since Graham Harrell (2006-08) to throw for 4,000-plus
yards in back-to-back
seasons. His 39 touchdown passes rank fourth all-time on the
single-season chart.
Doege
ended his Red Raider career ranked third all-time in Texas Tech career
history in passing yards (8,636), passing touchdowns (69), passing
attempts (1,187)
and passing completions (819).
Cody
Davis, a senior from Stephenville, will join Doege in South Florida
after capping off the best season of his Red Raider career. Davis led
the team with
101 total tackles (84 solo), including 10 tackles in the Meineke Car
Care Bowl. His 84 solo tackles ranks in the top 10 nationally.
His
outstanding senior season was rewarded by the league coaches as he was
named to the All-Big 12 Second Team. In addition to his on field
talents, he was named
a finalist for the prestigious William B. Campbell Trophy while earning a
$15,000 post-graduate scholarship from the National Football
Foundation. Davis also earned a spot on the Capital One Academic
All-America First-Team and became the first Red Raider to
take home that honor since newly named head coach Kliff Kingsbury did so
in 2002.
Davis
ends his career as just the third Red Raider over the last 12 years to
record at least 80 tackles in four consecutive seasons.
