Police have arrested a man and charged him with murder in the death of a woman found inside a smoldering apartment in south Lubbock on Friday night.

22-year-old Austin Hasten has been charged with murdering his neighbor, 51-year-old Michele Lisa Terry.

Terry was found laying in the living room of her apartment when firefighters went in to put out the blaze.

Eyewitnesses tell KAMC News Hasten walked up to the scene Friday night apparently intoxicated and with blood on his hands.

Police say Hasten, who is a student at Texas Tech University, attacked a police officer and tried to steal his gun before being wrestled to the ground and taken into custody by police.

Hasten is being held in the Lubbock County Jail on a $3 million dollar bond.

This is not the first time Hasten has attacked a police officer. Jail records from the Brazos County Jail show Hasten was arrested in December 2011 after running his pickup truck into a building and driving off.

Media reports from the incident say Hasten ran into a building, jumped out of his truck in only his underwear and ran off. When police finally apprehended him, reports say, he assaulted an officer several times.

According to media reports, Hasten admitted to being high on mushrooms during that incident.
