Police have not released any information about a possible motive in this case, but we are learning more about the connection between the suspect Austin Hasten and the victim Michele Terry. Not only did Hasten live two doors down from Terry, they were also Facebook friends.

22- year-old Austin Hasten being held on $3 million dollar bail, charged with the murder of his neighbor 51-year-old Michele Bradshaw Terry who was found dead inside her burning apartment Friday night.

Police have not commented on the relationship between the victim and suspect, but they are listed as friends on Facebook.

When police arrived on scene Friday they arrested Hasten after he tried to steal an officer's gun. Witnesses say Hasten had blood on his hands and seemed confused.

"The man ended up attacking one of the officers and was taken into custody," said LPD Sgt. Jonathan Stewart.

Originally from Mansfield, Texas, Hasten transferred from two different colleges before coming to Texas tech to be a Political Science major. While attending Texas A&M he drove his pickup truck into an apartment building while allegedly under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms. He was then charged with a DWI and assaulting a police officer.

LPD was on scene at the Autumn Ridge apartments for nearly 24 hours processing the crime scene.  The assistant manager of the complex says it has shocked their community.

Along with being charged with murder, Hasten is also charged with resisting arrest, assault on a public servant and attempting to take a weapon from an officer.
