Ike Boosts Gas Prices

By: Danielle Todesco
Updated: September 16, 2008

Hurricane Ike has affected several of the major oil refineries along the coast, causing 15 of the 26 plants in Texas to shut down.  The break in production is now boosting our gas prices.

Some of the highest we found in Lubbock was at $3.72 a gallon.  That is almost twenty cents higher than just two days ago.  But in comparison to other cities, Lubbock is fairly low.  South Carolina and Florida have both seen gas prices well past the $5.00 mark.  Still some residents here are feeling the pinch at the pump.

"It'd gone down for a while and then they came up with the storm deal and that's the price we have to pay for it."

"It's outrageous.  It went up a difference like from 3.46 to 3.64 like overnight.  It's just unbelievable."

The lowest we found was Bolton's at $3.64 a gallon.
