LUBBOCK, Texas - The
Texas
Tech track and field program officially kicked off its 2013 season
Saturday inside the Athletic Training Center and it didn't take long for
a school record to fall.
Senior Lady Raider Katie
Grimes opened the competition on the track with a stellar performance in the 55-meter hurdles
and breaking her own school record with a time of 7.71 seconds.
The
performance broke her previous school
record of 7.74 set last season as she cruised to a first place finish in
the event on Saturday. The Canyon, Texas native now owns four of the
top-five times in school history in the 55-meter hurdles to go along
with her school record in the 60-meter hurdles.

Raiders and Lady Raiders who collected a total of 10 first place
finishes on the day.
"It was a great start for our athletes,"
head track and field coach Wes Kittley, who began his 14th season
at
the helm of the program on Saturday, said. "Our newcomers got some
great experience today and we had some great performances across the
board. I was very proud of Katie on her performance as well. She just
ran an excellent race today and continues to get
better with every meet."
