Some of our own first responders are returning now after helping evacuees in the Hurricane Ike area. Ross Alexander is with the Lubbock Fire Marshal's office and is a licensed paramedic. He left with a few other from Lubbock on Wednesday and helped evacuate the entire hospital in Port Arthur.
After helping transport patients and evacuees to West Monroe, Louisiana, he returned to the Hub on Saturday night. He says he'll never forget how amazing the scale the operation was there.
"You couldn't count how many ambulences were down there. There was so many of them in several parking lots, side by side...they were so many of them and the same with the buses."
Now, some Lubbock DPS officers are on standby to help out, as well as local Excel officials. They'll join Lubbock's Salvation Army and Red Cross who are already in the area.
