The South Plains Food Bank will relocate to a new $9,850,611 building thanks to a donation from the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Charitable Foundation.

South Plains Food Bank Director David Weaver said they've been in their current location since 1983 and are in desperate need of more space.

He said this money will help the food bank solely focus on feeding those in need rather than building costs.

"It's going to allow us expand our services a little bit to handle more fresh produce more frozen items," Weaver said.  "It's going to give our staff a little bit more room to work with people.  And mroe importantly its going to give us a building that really meets food safety standards."

The 62,000 sq. ft. facility will be located between 50th St. and the Slaton Highway on Martin Luther King Boulevard and is expected to be complete by the summer of 2014.
