1.Football Star Duped in Girlfriend Hoax, Notre Dame Says

Notre Dame's athletic director and the star of its football team said the widely-reported death of the star's girlfriend from leukemia during the 2012 football season was apparently a hoax, and the player, Manti Te'o, said he was duped by it as well.

2. FAA Orders Grounding of US Boeing 787 Dreamliners

The Federal Aviation Administration has ordered the grounding of Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets until their U.S. operator proves that batteries on the planes are safe.

3. Obama Unveils Plan to Curb Gun Violence

President Obama unveiled a sweeping plan to curb gun violence in America through an extensive package of legislation and executive actions not seen since the 1960s.

4. Americans Held Hostage by Al Qaeda-Linked Group in Algeria

Militants have taken foreign hostages have been taken in a desert standoff in Mali. U.S. officials have confirmed that Americans are among the hostages being held following an attack by al Qaeda-linked insurgents on a BP joint-venture natural gas field in Algeria.

5. 'Diff'rent Strokes' Actor Conrad Bain Dies

Conrad Bain, the actor who played the dad on "Diff'rent Strokes," is dead at 89. Bain played Mr. Drummond, the white adoptive father of two African-American brothers, in the Gary Coleman sitcom.
