Entering
the third week of the indoor season, the Texas Tech men's distance
medley relay team officially ranks No. 1 in the country.
The relay squad, comprised of Ezekiel
Kissorio, Joseph Richards III, Nick
Rivera and 2012 NCAA Cross Country Champion Kennedy Kithuka finished
first overall this weekend at the Masked Rider Open with a time of 9:55.87.
After conversions for altitude their official
time of 9:51.10 stands as No. 1 on the national indoor performance list.
The
performance was one of several that
highlighted a full weekend of action inside the Athletic Training
Facility on the Texas Tech campus. Two indoor school records were broken
as senior hurdler Katie
Grimes once again set a new standard in the women's 55-meter hurdles finishing first overall
with a time of 7.67. The time currently ranks No. 8 nationally.
Meanwhile, sophomore Kole
Weldon broke
the men's indoor shot put record with a throw of 18.47-meters
(60'-7.25"),
a mark that stands as No. 8 nationally. Both Red Raider and Lady Raider
4x400 relay squads also put on a show. The Lady Raiders finished first
overall this weekend with a season-best time of 3:37.78 - a mark that
ranks No. 3 nationally.
The Red Raider 4x400 relay squad recorded
a time of 3:12.28 and enters the week at No.12 nationally.
Both
the Red Raider and Lady Raider track
and field squads will return to action this week in their first road
meet of the season as the pair competes at the Texas A&M Mondo
Challenge in College Station Jan. 25-26.
Tech will team up with fellow Big 12 member
TCU in a conference showdown with schools from the PAC-12 and SEC.
