"I'll tell you what it feels like. It's like having two concrete walls coming at you from both sides. You just feel locked in, you feel trapped--you just cant do anything," said Thomas.

Carol Thomas received several calls from her daughter Monica before answering. And when she did answer, it was not the call she wanted to hear.

"All I heard was 'mama if anything happens I love you,' and I couldnt--I couldnt grasp it."

Carol said her daughter told her a shooter was on the loose at her school and that he had just left the exact building she walked into minutes before shots were fired.

"There's not much i could say to her other than I love you. And all I could think-- I thought about the baby."

Monica Thomas, Carol's daughter, is a student in her thirties at Lone Star. And she said as a single mother all she could think about when the gunman was still on the run was her daughter.

"You just cant fathom that someone can take your life away from your child," said Monica. "That is the ultimate thought for me. Oh my God if I was in the wrong place at the wrong time they could've taken the only thing that she knows."

Monica said students weren't notified about the shooting and were wondering around campus with a gunman on the loose.

"I don't think the response time was efficient. They need a better system of locking it down after shots were fired-- after shots being fired on a campus."

Monica said that during and after the incidident, students around her were franitcally texting and calling their famililes to let them know they were okay and that they loved them.
