An update to a story we brought you last month.

The Slaton Animal Shelter was the center of several complaints, including that it was too hard to adopt from the shelter and too many dogs were being euthanized.

Now, the Slaton Mayor, Laura Lynn Wilson, and the Slaton Police Chief are making some major changes to the operating procedures of the shelter.

These changes include making the shelter more accessible to the public by having set hours for the Animal Control Officer to be in the shelter instead of 'by appointment only' and adding a sign outside the building to make it more visible to the public.

"We're going to have an adoption program and we'll also have a fostering program that will be available- it will be something that will be similar to what the city of Lubbock has," Slaton Mayor Laura Lynn Wilson says.

Mayor Wilson says the goal is to have these changes complete and in place by October 1st.
