There's a new plan to try and reduce the number of high school football concussions.

A state lawmaker has filed a bill, which if passed, would limit high school football teams to one, full-contact practice per week.

Concussions have been a concern for many athletes...and parents for quite some time.
Many believing that football helmets simply aren't enough.

State Representative Henry Lucio filed a bill last week that would limit high school teams to one full contact practice per week.

The bill also mandates cognitive tests to be used to determine when an athlete can start playing again after their concussion.

We spoke to the men's athletic trainer at Friendship High school, and she said a plan like this could be the answer to reduce concussions, but it may not be the best one.

"Learning how to tackle proper technique you cant really do that unless you have somebody a person to tackle you can do drills on dummies things like that. But having a real life situation where you're tackling another player in learning tactics and making sure you use proper form."
Friendship athletic rainer, Kimber Rogers.

Lucio said the plan is a little shy on details including what qualifies a workout, but he plans to discuss the bill with the Texas High school Coaches Association soon.
