After months of ongoing investigations, County Commissioners voted today to terminate their contract with the company providing food for the jail.

Mid-America Services Incorporated and the president of the company have been under investigation for nearly a year about their involvement in organized crime.  Earlier this month, they were found guilty of bribery in Potter County.  Monday morning at the County Commissioner meeting, Lubbock County decided to give the company a 90 day termination notice, something that some say is too late and will affect our already approved 2009 budget.

John Miller, Precinct 1 Candidate:
"We don't know if the new vendor is going to be more expensive, less expensive...what is that cost going to be?"

Mark Heinrich, County Commissioner Precinct 2:
"We found out about it on September the 4th and this was the first regular scheduled commissioner court meeting in which we could address this issue."

Now, Commissioners say they'll put out a nationwide search for a new food service and should have a new contract by early next year.
