Recent floods are taking a toll on the city and the county as they assess the costs of repairing the damage. The record-breaking rain flooded streets and homes throughout the city and county, badly damaged city parks, and even submerged cars. City officials estimate the cost of repairs at about $1.7 miIllion dollars and county officials put the damage estimate at about $2.7 mIllion. Theyve petitioned FEMA for disaster money, but havent heard back, so for now theyll have to foot the bill. Says Lubbock Accounting Director Pam Moon, "We definitely need our roads repaired, and we need our park facilities repaired, and we need cars for our policeman to drive, so well have to do what we need to get those facilities fixed."
