Health Department Numbers Could Mean Flu is Winding Down

Lubbock doctors, clinics and hospitals have seen several patients in and out dealing with the flu or flu like symptoms.
"Our numbers really quadrupled during that time," said Beckie Brawley with the Lubbock Health Department.
This years flu season took over national news headlines for weeks, and for Lubbock it was no different.
Brawley said flu cases peaked in lubbock at the end of January.
"Now they are way, way down," said Brawley, "More than half way down than they were last week."
Even though numbers are decreasing Brawley said that doesnt mean the seasons over.
"We are seeing it starting to trail off," she said, "But we still have flu, there is still flu in our community and people need to be aware its there."
Brawley said the CDC had predicted February to be another high peak of flu season, but luckily she said thats not the case here in Lubbock.
Brawley warns all of us its still not too late for that flu shot.
"It's not too late to get a flu shot," she said, "Our vaccine doesnt expire until the end of June."
Brawley said there's no clear reason for these low flu numbers.
She said it could be from people getting their flu shots, or just the warmer weather allowing people to get out and not have to be confined around people with germs.
Either way she said its a good thing.
