A Lubbock woman and a New Mexico man are dead after a shooting in Clovis last night. 53-year-old Gary Payne of Melorose, New Mexico, and a 36-year-old Lubbock woman were found shot in a GMC van around 11:00 Thursday night. The van had been crashed into a cinder block fence. Witnesses told police they heard gun shots fired prior to hearing the car crash.

Authorities found Payne shot several times in the head. He was airlifted here to Lubbock where he later died. Also in the van was a Lubbock woman who had been shot to death. Officials aren't releasing her name until her family has been notified. Witnesses also say they saw at least one person run away from the scene, and authorities found a pistol at the scene as well.
