Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Will Hold Job Fair For Unemployed Youth

"It's a lot easier for people then having to go apply everywhere and ask are you hiring," Kristen said. "I think that is better."
Kristen-a student at Lubbock High School- works at the new Market Street.
She was hired at a job fair.
"I went to a job fair they had at the civic center for the new United," Kristen said. "I got interviewed on the spot and then I had another interview and they asked if I wanted to be apart of the staff and I said yeah."
Kristen said she likes the feeling of independence she gets from working.
"I can buy stuff on my own and just have spending money while in school," Kristen said. "Sometimes my parents can't afford all the things that I want so it comes in handy."
She also said her job keeps her out of trouble.
"It keeps me out of trouble having a job because you always have to be at school or at work so it takes up some time," Kristen said.
Carlos Morales is a board member for the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce.
"This one focuses more on the age group," Morales said. "More on what I believe are appropriate positions for this age group. A lot of them could be entry level which is necessary."
Morales said businesses in Lubbock have jobs open and they are looking for people to fill them.
"It's a good opportunity for the youth to come together in an organized area for them to come and see the opportunities that are out there," Morales said.
Some of the businesses coming to the job fair are: Raising Canes, Goodwill and Market Street-looking to hire more workers like Kristen-who said she loves gaining real world experience.
"It gets you prepared having to be at work on time and having to be responsible for yourself," Kristen said.
