1. Detective Heading Pistorius Case Facing Murder Charges

Police have confirmed that the South African detective spearheading the Oscar Pistorius case is facing seven charges of attempted murder. Detective Hilton Botha was allegedly involved in a shooting two years ago.

2. Month Passes Since Last U.S. Military Fatality in Afghanistan

Wednesday marked 30 days without a U.S. military fatality in Afghanistan. This is the longest gap between U.S. military fatalities in Afghanistan since 2007.

3. Winter Storm Hits Midwest, 1 Dead

A winter storm in the middle of the country is already to blame for one death. Winter storm warnings and watched have been issued in 20 states from Arizona to Ohio.

4. Over 100 File Suits Over Triumph Incident

More than 100 passengers that were aboard the formerly stranded Carnival cruise ship Triumph have filed class action suits against the cruise ship company.

5. Women Have More Language Protein in Brain

Scientists have discovered that women have higher levels of "language protein" in their brains, which could explain why females are so talkative. The study, published in the Journal of Neuroscience, found that the average woman speaks up to 20,000 words a day, about 13,000 more than the average man.
