Lubbock police have identified the victim in this morning's stabbing in north Lubbock as 43-year-old Miguel Mendoza.

Mendoza was stabbed inside his house in the 2900 block of Dartmouth Avenue Friday morning around 10:45 and taken to UMC for treatment.

EMS described Mendoza's injuries as several apparent stabbing wounds to his neck and upper body.

Police say the wounds are life-threatening.

LPD officers draped crime scene tape around the house where the incident happened and a woman was seen crying outside of the house.

Investigators finally cleared the scene after spending hours there gathering evidence Friday.

Neighbors said it was surprising to come home to find out Mendoza had been stabbed.

"I see him as a working man, I see him work everyday, up and down," said Joel Gonzales, a neighbor who said he would often chat with Mendoza. "We're all, it's a pretty peaceful neighborhood around here, this block is always real peaceful, we've never had no problems you know, so it's really surprising to see something like that."

Another neighbor, who did not give her name, said she usually saw a lot of family at the home, "I've never seen any police come over there before," said said. "Especially in that home, I just thought it was a nice family."

Police have yet to release any details about the victim or any suspects. If you have any tips for police, you can call the Crime Line at 741-1000.
