The mix of the wind and the snow caused a white-out at the airport, and gave no visibility to pilots trying to fly in or out of Lubbock Monday.
Even FedEx and UPS stopped their service Monday.
The lack of air travel caused a headache for one Lubbock couple returning from their honeymoon. Newlyweds Joanna and Mac Yowell were coming back from their honeymoon in Hawaii Monday. They were able to catch their plane to Dallas, but weren't able to fly back to Lubbock.
We rented a car and drove up and then hit bad weather right outside of Post, and then came through the weather getting up here," said Mac Yowell. "It was fun, the worst part was the wind, and not being able to fly, that was the worst part."
According to James Loomis, Executive Director at LIA, crews were working Monday to prep the runways for normal flights Tuesday, when the airport re-opens at 4:30 a.m.
