Snow Helps Farmers In Pre-Planting Season

"It's horrible to drive in and it's slick but we love it," said Koby Reed, "I'll take it, I'll take two more next week."
Reed said Monday's blizzard event was great for cotton farmers across the South Plains including him.
Reed explained snow, if enough is accumulated, is a bit better than rain.
"That snow will sit there and slowly seep into the soil," said Reed.
Even though parts of the area received more than four inches of snow, Reed said we still need more moisture.
"If you kick the dirt right now, yeah it's wet on the surface," he said, "but it's still dry way down."
Moving forward we are going to need a lot more rain just to get back to normal."
Reed said farmers will start planting in late April, early May and sub-surface moisture is key in getting a healthy crop.
"As we move closer to May we want all the rain we can get," said Reed.
Farmers are still dealing with the drought and that's why Reed said he keeps praying for rain.
"At this point we are in a lot better shape than we was this time last year and certainly this time in 2011," said Reed, "We'll take what we can get, it's a blessing."
