Pope Benedict XVI held an emotional farewell today at the Vatican, just one day before he becomes the first pope in six centuries to retire.

Manuel Moreno, a Deacon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lubbock, said he's not worried about not having a pope for the time being; he is putting his trust in the cardinals and God to elect the right man for the job.

Pope Benedict rode the pope mobile for the last time today through St. Peter's Square, kissing babies and saying goodbye to about 100,000 worshippers in his final general audience.

Moreno said it's incredible to see history being made and is excited to see what God has in store for their church.

"It is kind of a sad day to see him step down because of the profoundness with which he spoke to the church and how he led us, but again its not like the church is being abandoned," said Moreno.  "We still will remain intact and we'll just have to wait and see how the cardinals, who they will decide will be our next pope."

The 116 of the 118 cardinals will meet in Rome to decide who the next pope will be and they'll hopefully have a decision before Easter.

Deacon Moreno said he couldn't even begin to speculate who will be elected; he will leave the decision up to the Holy Spirit and the cardinals.
