In front of a small crowd Friday, Chancellor Kent Hance announced Dr. Duane Nellis as the sole finalst for Texas Tech President.  Dr. Nellis is the current president at the University of Idaho.

"We're proud to announce that Dr. Duane Nellis will be the sole finalist for the presidency for Texas Tech University," said Chancellor Hance.

By state law, Tech has to wait 21 days before officially appointing Dr. Nellis as president.

"Everywhere we checked, we got glowing reports on him." said Chancellor Hance about Dr. Nellis.

Dr. Nellis has been president at the University of Idaho for the last 4 years. Before that, he also served as provost and vice president at Kansas State University, as well as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University.

Dr. Nellis has a degree in earth science/geography from Montana State University, and has his master's and doctoral degrees in geography from Oregon State University.

"It's a huge win for the university to have Dr. Nellis," said Suzanne Taylor, student member of the Board of Regents. "I think that he's going to be fabulous, and he's going to add something extra too, and build on what Dr. Bailey already established."

The president position came open in August 2012 after Dr. Guy Bailey stepped down. Dr. Lawrence Schovanec served as Interim President.

Schovanec, Lawrence
