Updated: March 8, 2013
The fastest wieners of the southwest will take to the track this weekend.

It's a race of Lubbock's finest Dachshunds at the Texas Tech Recreation Fields.

It's all part of the 18th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener National competition.

The hopeful hounds are competing to go from wiener to winner and score $250, plus a trip to the 2013 Wiener National Finals in California.

The races begin at 9:30 Saturday morning, but the final race is at 3:00 p.m.-- during the Texas Tech v UT men's basketball game.
