A group of young teens are giving back this spring break. They've turned down a ski trip and relaxation to help others around Lubbock.

"They are so excited and every one of them just keep telling me thank you for letting them help me, its amazing," said Eva Smith, who is getting help with her yard.

Smith is thankful that twelve young teenagers are spending their spring break helping her out.

"They chose not to go on a spring trip with their church with a lot of times they have a spring trip where they go skiing somewhere and these young people are so rewarding that they chose to serve our community," said Smith

The teenagers paved her walkway with stones, built garden walls, painted her garage doors and even stained her deck.

Smith is not the only one receiving help,  there are teams from Victory Life Church working on projects around Lubbock.

"Its amazing what young people they are," said Smith.

"We've been working hard and nobody has been fighting or complaining its been real positive," said Andrew Shaw, helping out Smith.

13-year olds Andrew Shaw and Brittany Wheeler say it's just as rewarding for them as it is for Smith.

"I mean spending your spring break you could be eating chips sitting on the sofa watching tv but you get a lot more, it warms your heart to see what you are doing for other people and how they react," said Shaw.

"I think this is a good way to spend your spring break because you know you can help others with anything they need help with its just a good time," said Brittany Wheeler, also helping out Smith.

Smith says teens have gotten a bad reputation in the last few years, but she says these teens prove they're not all bad.

"There are many many things that they get blamed for, but they are not all that way there are blessings, blessings of kids that love to do wonderful things," said Smith.
