"It is a crazy thing," Urrutia said.  "Something that we never thought would happen to one of our kids you know. "

Patrick Urrutia still can not believe his little boy, 8-year-old Elijah is dead.

"At first I thought it was a joke," Urrutia said. "Someone else called me and told me I needed to go to the emergency room and that is when reality hit me."

Elijah was riding in a Go-Kart Thursday when it flipped and rolled several times.

Investigators tell us the cause of the crash is most likely excessive speed.

Urrutia said the whole incident was just an accident.

"Like I said it was all an accident," Urrutia said. "Nobody wants their son or somebody they know closely to go through this and everybody is in shock still,"

The driver of the Go-Kart carried Elijah down the street-looking for help.

Today Urrutia said the driver is a relative.

"He is taking it pretty well, but we are staying strong for him," Urrutia said.  "And we are praying and show him all the love and support that he needs."

Elijah attended Idalou Elementary School.

Urrutia said he loved sports and played baseball and football.

"Elijah was very energetic, an energetic little boy," Urrutia said. "He was always out here messing around playing with dirt you know just being a boy."

A memorial fund for Elijah has been set up at Vista Bank in Idalou.

There will also be a car wash Saturday from Noon to 5pm at Thriftway in Idalou.
