LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 21 Texas Tech will begin the defense of their 2012 Big 12 Conference title in women's tennis as they host Oklahoma on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
The Lady Raiders, who are the highest ranked team in the Big 12 Conference, were picked to finish third in the Big 12 by the league's coaches.
So far this season, Texas Tech has started the season 9-4, with a perfect 3-0 mark at home. In fact, Texas Tech has won 12 straight at home and 24 of their last 25 matches at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Last season, the Lady Raiders topped Oklahoma, 5-2, at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Texas Tech is paced one of the best doubles lineups in the country, as Texas Tech has 12 of 13 doubles points this season. Leading the way is the No. 34 tandem of Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo, who are 13-6 on the season and 10-3 in dual matches. Add in the No. 61 duo of Rashmi Teltumbde and Nikki Sanders, who are 15-7 overall and 8-5 in duals, and it's a solid 1-2 punch. The No. 3 crew of Caroline Starck and Elizabeth Ullathorne have been solid all year with a 11-4 record, including a 10-1 mark in dual match competition.
Adams, who is 10-14, has anchored the No. 1 spot for Texas Tech for most of this season, while No. 118 Kilgo (15-6) has split time at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, along with Teltumbde (9-10).
Ullathorne (17-6) and Sandra Dynka (11-7) have seen time at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, while Sanders (14-5) and Starck (12-5) have anchored No. 5 and No. 6 this season.
The Lady Raiders are a combined 28-8 at 4-5-6 this season and have a winning record in five of six positions this season.
