Marine Corps veteran Sgt. Brendan O'Toole served time in Afghanistan, but now he's spending his time running thousands of miles across the country raising money and awareness for his fellow veterans.

O'Toole started his 3,600 miles marathon in California this past November 11th, Veteran's Day.

Each day O'Toole runs 15 miles to raise awareness and $2 million so his newly founded organization 'The Run for Veterans' can provide mental, physical and social well being programs for vets and their families.

He said the run takes a toll on his body, but he feels he's been called to help make a difference in people's lives.

"To see that you're making an impact in other people's lives," said O'Toole.  "It's bigger than you.  It's better than you and something that's going to live forever has really been something special for us.  I think that's what's keeping us going right now."

A recent ankle injury forced O'Toole to put the trek on hold for more than 20 days, but he's just been cleared and will be back on the road in Brownfield later this week.

O'Toole hopes to reach his final stop in Portland, Maine sometime this fall.
