UMC Health System receives recognition as the 2012 Best Place to Work in Texas among large companies. The Best Companies Group recognized UMC Tuesday in Austin. UMC has ranked among the top three companies for five of the past six years. This is the first time UMC has received the No. 1 spot.

The companies were ranked by the Texas Association of Business, the Texas State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management and Best Companies Group. There were 33 companies ranked in the large-company category, which includes businesses with 500 or more employees.

"This is a tremendous honor and a testament to the culture our employees have created," said David G. Allison, UMC president and chief executive officer.

"One of the ways UMC has remained financially successful is by retaining our employees and reducing turnover. Our employees want to be here, and that makes a safer environment for patients."
