Thanks to the recent wind and dry weather conditions Lubbock will be under a fire weather watch this Saturday.

The National Weather Service issued the watch for the entire southern panhandle.

They say with winds of up to 35mph and a low humidity level of about 10% fires will develop easily and spread quickly.

The NWS hopes the alert will not only remind folks to be cautious, but also help prepare the fire department.

"The quicker they can get to a position or to a fire and have an initial attack the more successful they'll be in protecting property and lives," said Meteorologist Steve Cobb.

"Stay away from using anything hot or from starting fires tomorrow," said Meteorologist Ron McQueen.  "It's going to be a pretty dicey day with winds and very, very dry air and we certainly don't want anything to get out of hand."

The watch is in effect from 1:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Saturday.
