We're less than a month away from the official start of the dreaded flu season. It's recommended not only you, but your kids get the flu shot this season. The Lubbock Health Department says it's received enough flu vaccine to cover the demand. And unlike last year when the vaccine was hard to come by, there's enough available this year, so the city can order more if need be. Officials recommend children six months and older get the vaccine.
Public Health Coordinator, Beckie Brawley, says prevention is the key to avoiding the bug this season.
"That's missed days from school. That's parents missed days from work while their child is sick, so getting themselves and their children vaccinated is a good prevention strategy, so they don't have to miss time from school and work," Brawley says.
Adults and children can get their flu shot at the Health Department beginning Wednesday morning.
