'TexasSure' Insures Insurance

A new statewide program is cracking down on drivers without insurance... and also helping out those who do. It's a system known as 'TexasSure.' And the department of public safety here in Lubbock is now a week in with the new program.Whether you do or don't have inurance, DPS officials can now access all of your information on the road, and right at their fingertips.
During a traffic stop, officials can run your license plate number and will instantly be linked to your insurance information. The database also stores information on inspection stickers and registration. This program will save you time if you are covered, and if you happen to have left your card at home or it's expired -- the system will show you as valid and you won't have a citation to deal with.
If you don't have insurance, officials will have the grounds to fine you. In Texas, that can be as much as $350. DPS installed the system last Thursday, and they say hopefully this will save law enforcement time and money. The checks are not done at random, only when you've already crossed traffic laws.
"This will be only designed for a traffic stop. We will not just be going down the street at random and picking out license plates and running and verifying, that's not what this is designed for. As long as you don't violate the law, you won't have any problems with police stopping you and verifying that information." says Cpl. John Gonzales, Lubbock DPS.
Remember that it is state law to have insurance, so if you don't have it you need to get it before you're caught without it.
