With possible heavy rains in store for tonight, many are wondering if Lubbock is headed for another big flood. Fortunately, all the playa lakes that flooded back in September have come down to normal levels and do have the capacity to handle additional rainfall.

City engineers say most likely, the streets will still flood temporarily, but once the storm is over, they hope the water will flow quickly into the playa lakes and eventually out of the city.

"Typically if we get under 3 inches of rain, we're okay. It's that 3 inch threshold that we start worrying a little more and when we know the lake levels are filling up as far as the capacity to hold the runoff,"
says storm engineer Mike Keenum.
