This weekend's Amber Alert was a good test for the Lubbock's Reverse 911 system. After 8-year-old Sierra Castillo went missing late Saturday night, police canvassed the area, posted fliers, and used the system to alert area residents.
They set a 2 mile radius around the apartment the little girl was at, and an alert called out to every home registered with 911. The girl was eventually found with her uncle, but police say it was no easy task. "It was kind of strange...I've been doing this for 22 years and really that's one of those cases that you look at and say this is probably a true abduction because there was nobody that had any information...the kid just disappeared." says Cpl. Mark Long, LPD.
He says they've had the system for about seven years, and use it for all types of emergency alerts.
