A Lubbock man pleads guilty in open court on Monday to the murder of a 15-year-old boy, and now his punishment is in the hands of a Lubbock judge.

Alfredo Perez is accused of shooting and killing 15-year-old Javier Castaneda on July 25th, last year, outside Harwell Elementary School.  His trial by jury was expected to start today, but instead Perez stood in front of the judge and plead guilty to the murder. Now the trial has jumped to the punishment phase.  Perez faces up to life in prison and the judge is expected to decide his sentence by Wednesday.
