The Lubbock/Crosby County Community Supervision and Corrections Department is taking pro-active measures to keep registered sex offenders off the streets on Halloween.

Registered offenders will have to attend a mandatory three hour meeting to make sure they are current in registry status and will have to attend a mandatory therapeutic discussion group Halloween night.

"We see that there are opportunities for offenders to cross those boundaries and to have those temptations," said Supervision and Corrections Supervisor Jennifer Mora, "This is a preventative approach."

Despite the close watch on registered offenders, corrections officials warn that that doesn't mean that there will not be predators targeting children.

Parents are encouraged to check Lubbock's internet registry before going trick-or-treating with children, stick to neighborhoods they know, and never leave children unattended.
