Covenant Layoffs

Covenant Officials announced layoffs on Monday.

Ninety-one non-care employees received the news that they will no longer have jobs.

Covenant's CEO Melinda Clark said she believes roughly 70 percent of those employees are qualified to take on other positions at the hospital.

Tough economic times is said to be the driving force behind the layoffs.

Clark said she cannot guarantee that there will not be layoffs in the future.  She continued to say that she does not believe patient care will suffer.

Covenant will also be consolidating and cutting some health programs and will begin practicing more electronic clerical transactions to save on funds.

Covenant employees roughly 5,800 people.
