Texas Tech's number two national ranking isn't just making this a great season for football fans...it's meaning lots of work for folks in the Tech Admissions Office.

The Admissions staff is reporting a spike in interest from prospective students.

They've even doubled the number of campus tours this week alone and it's no coincidence this happens after Tech's huge win over Texas last weekend.

Marcy Jarrett with Visit Lubbock estimates millions of dollars worth of free publicity over the last two weeks.

"Whatever is good for Texas Tech University is good for Lubbock.  We're all in partnership here together selling the same city and all the same ammenities and things like that," Jarrett says.

Tech Admissions tells us reservations for campus tours have gone up exponentially.

Normally they see 30 families on Fridays, today they saw more than 100.
