The mystery of Kristine Bufkin's death is becoming a little clearer tonight.
45-year-old Karen Dee Follis is being held in the Lubbock County Jail and Police tell us she's been charged with 'failing to stop and render aid' after she apparently hit Bufkin with her car and drove away from the scene.
Bufkin's body was found Saturday morning at Southeast Drive and the Loop.
Court documents say Bufkin initially wrecked her car and started walking down FM 1729.
That's when Follis apparently hit her, dragging her body for about five miles.
"She very clearly did die from being struck by a motor vehicle. Now, what specifically caused her death, whether it was the initial impact, whether it was from being dragged or something like that, those will have to come from the final autopsy at a later date," Capt. Greg Stevens with the Lubbock Police Department says.
Failing to stop and render aid is a third degree felony, and if convicted, Follis faces up to ten years in prison.
