The increasingly high cost of attending college could eventually put higher education out of reach for many Americans.

A report released by the National Center for Higher Education says the cost of college has increased more than 400% since the 1980s. It has now risen nearly three times higher than the rate for cost of living.

Local students and parents worry that less affordable education will limit college opportunities, and tuition costs are dramatically affecting students' college choices. Says LISD Director of COunseling Larry Hess, "It can be kind of daunting to look at that figure, and anyone that might have been on the fence to begin with. I definitely fear that they'll go 'Ok, well, we can't do that.'"
