The bitter cold weather is forcing Lubbock's homeless population to find overnight shelter. The Salvation Army is able to provide temporary overnight shelter, while helping the homeless and hurting families get back on their feet. They have 50 beds and plan to fill most of those on cold nights. Carpenter's Church on 13th Street has a day shelter and a over night prayer vigil where the homeless can get out of the cold. Says Chad Wheeler of Carpenter's, "We don't want to see any of our friends out in the cold, and so we're doing whatever we can to provide the care that they need."
Major Ernest Branscum of the Salvation Army says, "We're encouraging all of them to come in today, if they're out someplace, and they need to get out of the weather, we're encouraging them to come in and stay here."
