The word 'recession' seems to be everywhere these days. So is Lubbock facing the same economic decline as the rest of the nation?

Gary Lawrence of Lubbock's Economic Development Alliance says 'no'--our economy is doing just fine. Not only that, but it has shown modest growth throughout the year. The only declines have been in home and auto sales, but Lawrence says that's natural in these times.

One thing that keeps Lubbock from hitting a recession--the city continues to add jobs to the workforce. Says Lawrence, "Lubbock is a great place to own a business, to work, to live, because I think it's stable. As long as we can keep growing jobs, even if we don't grow them, if we can just hold them, i think we're doing really well."
